Should You Go for a Free Web Host or a Paid One for Your Blog?

Web Hosting

I used to indulge in free web hosting back then. My intention for creating my very first blog was a means for me to just convey my message in the hopes of people finding out about it and reading what I have to say about a number of different topics. But, I was getting mediocre results and although it started out as a hobby, I actually loved blogging. I didn’t realize it back then when I first began, but I did see that I have a career in this, so I pursued it. It is definitely so much better to get the services of a top hosting company as opposed to getting those free web services. In today’s article, I will go over the reasons why you should go for either a free web host or a paid one if you decide to create your own blog.

Free Web Hosting

If you ask me, I do not recommend free web hosting, but this is not to say that it doesn’t have its uses. This is ideal for people who want to dip their toes into the online realm by creating their own blogs. This is also a good option for people who just treat blogging as a hobby and nothing else. However, there are a couple of reasons why I do not recommend it if you want to be a serious blogger. For one, a free domain usually comes with a subdomain. For instance, if you use your URL such as mywebsite.com, the actual result would be mywebsite.asubdomain.com, with ‘asubdomain’ being the subdomain that never goes away Aside from that, you are fairly limited to what you can do when you go for a free web hosting service. You cannot use plugins to further customize your blog, you cannot integrate analytics tools since most free web services would not allow you, and your blog’s SEO performance will be mediocre at best due to a variety of different reasons. If anything, I would only recommend free web hosting if you just blog as a hobby and nothing else.

Paid Hosting

Paid web hosting is definitely the way to go if you want to become a successful blogger. For one, you actually get to choose your own domain which means that your URL will not come with an annoying subdomain, thus improving your blog’s credibility.

Aside from that, you get to choose your own theme and you get to further customize your blog through different plugins and scripts. Getting the services of the best web hosting provider, for example, would also mean that your blog’s performance is significantly better than any free web host could provide. This means that your blog can be accessed within seconds and you get to have a much higher storage capacity so that you can store all of your blog’s files safely and securely in your provider’s servers. And the best part of all is that the competition in the web hosting industry is fierce, which means that the providers are giving you the option to get an inexpensive plan that does everything that you could ever hope for.
